Holiday Cottage & Alpaca Farm
PAQOCHA ALPACA is a privately owned New Zealand alpaca stud breeding high quality rare suri alpaca. We also have a beautifully appointed cottage for holiday rental.
Set in beautiful Gibbston Valley, just outside Queenstown in Central Otago, we are surrounded by vineyards and are only minutes away from the Kawarau Bungy Bridge (the birth place of bungy) and the historic mining town of Arrowtown. We are in close proximity to both Queenstown and Cromwell.
Our name was inspired by South America with its rich Inca history. Paqocha (pronounced pack-ot-cha) means Alpaca in Quechua which is an indigenous language of the Andean region. Quechua was the official language of the Inca Empire and is still spoken today by approximately 13 million people in Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Northern Chile, Argentina and Southern Colombia.
We would welcome the opportunity to be part of your holiday plans and introduce you to the wonderful world of alpacas if you so wish.
Your hosts Caroline and Henrik
The light and sunny two room cottage is overlooking the valley and the alpacas for maximum relaxation and serenity. You will find peace and quiet, yet you are only minutes from the cycle trail and the many vineyards in Gibbston Valley. Beautiful Arrowtown with its world class golf courses is 20 minutes away and you are 30 minutes from the action in Queenstown. Easy access to the surrounding skifields, all between 30-60 minutes away.
When you enter the cottage you will find a large sitting room with a sofa, flat screen TV, dining table and a small galley kitchen with full size fridge, microwave, dishwasher and a sink. Complimentary WiFi, books, games and DVD collection will keep you busy if you chose to stay inside. A heatpump makes sure you are comfortable during cold winter days or in the heat of the summer.
Your bedroom has a comfortable pocket sprung king size bed, always with 100% cotton bed linen to guarantee a good nights sleep. Double french doors open up to a large patio overlooking the valley below.
A generous sized ensuite bathroom with shower is attached to the bedroom. Underfloor heated tiles, an extra fan heater and heated towel rail will keep you cozy. Large bath towels are provided.
Although we do not offer breakfast, there is always fresh milk, muesli and corn flakes provided - together with tea and plunger coffee, or a Nespresso Espresso.

THINGS TO DO
Gibbston is a premier Central Otago wine growing area, with the local Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris among the best in the country. There are two cellar doors within walking distance.
Walks & Hikes
There are many walks and hikes just around the corner. Peregrine loop, Rock Peak and Mt Rosa Track to name a few. Various difficulty.
We are close to Queenstown cycle trail that runs along Gibbston Valley. Cycle along the edge of Kawarau River, passing several vineyards, to the historic bungy bridge and beyond.
Our Alpaca Experience is aimed at tourists visiting the greater Queenstown area, offering a great opportunity to see alpacas up close and personal. It is designed to be an informal introduction to these fascinating animals and allows for plenty of photo opportunities. All visits are individual groups so you can be assured of a personal experience.
Together we will feed the alpacas, observe the young ones (depending on season) and also whenever possible, lead one on a halter for that personal picture.
You will also have the opportunity to browse our small shop selling exclusively New Zealand made alpaca products. Many of the items can be traced back to the animals you have just met. These high quality products will make a beautiful souvenir or a very special present.
As a guest in the Cottage this is off course included in your stay (if you so wish).
If you are not staying with us, but would like to do the Alpaca Experience please click here for info and booking.
